Using Keywords For Better Search Engine Ranking

Keywords are one of the main ingredients that will help your niche site to rank higher in the search engine results.  When you use a keyword or keywords in the content of your site the search engines will run your site content through their algorithm and decide how much value it brings to the perspective audience.  The more value the search engine sees in site content, the higher it will rank in the search results.  Choosing the proper keywords will help boost the rankings of your niche site by showing the search engines that your content is of value for those who are researching that particular topic.

Research shows that placing your keyword(s) within the first 150 to 200 words of content will boost your results.  There is a balance you must use when placing keywords throughout the content of your site.  If a search engine decides that you have used a specific keyword too many times, they will consider this a type of spam resulting in your website being pushed toward the bottom of the results.  On the other hand, if you only use your keyword once or twice the search engines may not even have a clue that it is relevant to your site content.

How many times should you use a keyword in your content?  The truth is that no-one knows the answer to this.  The best solution for solving this problem is to write content that flows naturally instead of forcing your keyword into every space possible.  By writing natural flowing articles with your keywords sprinkled throughout, you will be able to boost your rankings.

What Is SEO?

SEO is the abbreviation for Search Engine Optimization.  SEO is the art of setting up a website in a manner that will make it rank higher in the search results on search engines.  This helps the site receive the most traffic possible.  Each search engine has a procedure which sorts through the information available and ranks sites in order of relevance based on the keyword(s) that are used for any given search.

When a search is preformed in a search engine there are two types of results that appear.

  • Paid results - The paid listings usually appear at the very top of the search engine results.  The companies who's ads appear here are typically spending big bucks to be there.
  • Unpaid results - This is the section below the paid results which contains all of the "organic" results.  A site listed in this section is there because the search engine listing it has determined the content of that site to be relevant to the keyword(s) being searched.
The end goal of SEO is for your site to end up in one of the first few spots below the paid listings.  The more relevant your site is considered by the search engine to be the more likely it will be to appear near the first position on this list which in turn drive more traffic your niche site.

Good SEO is based around three main areas of your site.

  • Content
  • Structure
  • HTML
We will cover more about these three topics in future posts.  For now the main idea you need to take away from this post is:  The more valuable the information provided, the more likely it is that your site will rank high among the search engine results.

Why You Should Not Build A Niche Site

Building niche sites gives you a wonderful opportunity to earn a little bit of money online.  There are many good reasons to build a niche web site, but there are also a few reasons not to build one of them.

If you are planning on making a ton of money from the first day you build and publish your niche site, you are going to be incredibly disappointed.  These sites will not bring you instant riches.  To successfully begin earning money it will take a lot of time and effort.  When starting out on your journey you will spend many, many hours researching to find a topic that will work for you.

Upon finding a niche that peaks your interest, you will begin the second leg of the journey.  Creating meaningful content for your particular niche is a demanding process.  If writing is not your forte, you can purchase content for your site through several sources.  Although this will speed up the setup process, it will cost money.  Generally speaking the better the content, the more money it will cost.  I personally prefer writing all of the content for my sites.

After filling your niche site with excellent content you must allow more time for Google (and the other search engines) to find and rank your site.  This will happen, but it can prove to be quite the waiting game.  After your site is found and ranked you will begin to see traffic trickle in.  In order to boost your traffic you must provide the best content possible.  Make sure the visitors to your site will learn something of value about that particular niche.  In turn these visitors will spread the word for you.

Once the traffic begins flowing, you must realize that it is a niche site which specifically targets a certain audience.  Because there are only going to be so many people interested in any one subject, the reach and monthly income of any particular niche website will be limited.  This in turn will limit earning potential for that site.

As with anything in life, you must put in the effort in order to reap the rewards.  You've heard the saying "there's no such thing as free money."  That statement couldn't be more true.  However, if you are willing to put in the required effort and have the patience to allow the system to function as it should you can begin to experience the benefits which you have earned through all for your effort and hard work.
